What comes to mind when you hear the word vibration? By definition, vibration refers to movement that can be as massive and visible as an earthquake or as delicate and unseen as the trembling of particles. This repeated tremor stirs discomfort within the seemingly still rhythm of our daily lives. In the phrase “repeated tremor,” the word “repeated” suggests something simple, while “tremor” carries with it a quiet nuance of unease.
Martin Heidegger, a 20th-century German existential philosopher, made a statement that a person’s standard feeling is anxiety. One’s basic mood (translated from the German word “Grundstimmung”) comes from the fundamental of a feeling about subjective being. When this basic mood is named anxiety, it signifies that the moment we grasp and become aware of the meaning of our being, the essence of “I” is born out of a restless, uneasy feeling.
Repeated vibrations serve as a cause. Due to uneasiness, doubt starts to form about the concept about your own being. Similar to how a powerful tremor, such as an earthquake, can shatter the ordinary life, the subtle vibrations within the microscopic realm induce nanometer-scale positional errors in semiconductor and display industries, and render the measurements of high-precision instruments such as electron and atomic microscopes to be unstable.
Instability and errors arise from the discomfort caused by vibrations. Because vibrations generate this unease, a time inevitably comes when one starts to question how to minimize such discomfort and seek the meaning behind it. The questioning of being prompted by anxiety strives to find answers. After all, such existential inquiry itself begins from uncomfortability. The human condition, in its essence, can be understood as a manner of existence driven by the desire to get rid of this discomfort.
DAEIL SYSTEMS has reflected deeply on the discomfort arising from vibrations. The significance of this discomfort demanded a thorough analysis of its causes, which resulted in the guidance of the direction of its research. Each instance of unease prompted a reevaluation of DAEIL’s philosophy and inspired existential decisions that have shaped the company’s core values.
